Conditions of Authorisation Review & Fire Doorsets self-certification - Call for Evidence

Overview

The Building Safety Regulator has launched a review of the Conditions of Authorisation to ensure that existing Self‑Certification Schemes remain effective, proportionate and fit for purpose within the current building safety regulatory framework. Through this call for evidence, we aim to identify any issues within the current regulatory system and explore pathways for improvement with the overarching goal of strengthening consumer confidence and enhancing the efficiency and accountability of Schemes and their members.

In addition, we are seeking practical evidence, experiences, and views from the sector to explore whether they could inform a proposal to introduce a self-certification scheme for fire doorset installations, maintenance and replacements across England and Wales.

The call for evidence seeks to explore whether certain fire door works in both higher-risk and lower-risk buildings could be completed without the need for formal building control approval or the traditional gateway process. This should help reduce project delays and improve overall efficiency.

Respondents are invited to provide practical evidence, experiencesandviews on the Problem Statement included below as well as how the Conditions ofAuthorisationcan best support a safe, competentand trustworthy self-certification framework for the future.

We are seeking detailed, actionable responses supported by evidence and examples, rather than simple yes/no answers.
